  Ya know I've been avoiding the political threads as of late because I hate disputing this stuff with anybody on this forum. I truly look at all of you like distant relatives because of our JW connection. To some degree, your all I have LOL, not to sound like a Lifetime Channel movie or anything. I have to admit though, some of these heated threads are quite hilarious. Beks and JWoods going at it, and Dark Side calling everybody an idiot, its comical.

  Mainstream media has given an unknown religious cult of similar ilk as Westboro Baptist Church – the nut cases who protest homosexuality at our troops funerals more publicity than they rate or deserve.

  In fact, the Dove World Outreach Center (DWOC) has endorsed Westboro Baptist Church’s protests against homosexuality at our troops funerals.

  Way back in March 2010, the so-called Christian Church in question, Dove World Outreach Center posted a video which decried the possibility of an openly-gay mayor (in this case, current mayor Craig Lowe, who is the first openly gay mayor of Gainesville, FL). So far, so good.

  However, it also posted a sign saying "No Homo Mayor"; after Americans United for Separation of Church and State requested the Internal Revenue Service to investigate the sign as an undue participation of a non-political tax-exempt organization in the political process, the church then changed the sign to simply read "No Homo".

  Mixing and Matching: Westboro and Dove World Center mingle at a "street preaching" action

  A Gainesville, Fla. anti-gay minister’s plan to make a bonfire out of copies of the Qu’ran--the holy book of the Muslim faith--has been denounced as an invitation to violence against U.S. troops in Afghanistan by Gen. David Petraeus and condemned by the U.S. State Department as "un-American."
  
  Buried on the web site for the group planning to burn the sacred texts, however, is clue as to the mindset of those behind the planned bonfire: a posting "in support of Westboro Baptist," the anti-gay church based in Topeka, Kansas that is run by Fred Phelps.
  
  An April 21 blog entry at the site’s web site recounts that on the previous Sunday, April 18, members of Dove World Outreach Center "went as a church to stand with" a contingent of street preachers from Westboro. The Westboro congregation--mostly made up of Rev. Phelps’ extended family--have gained notoriety by picketing the funerals of fallen U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The church claims that God is punishing America because gays are not sufficiently persecuted in this country. The church’s actions have spurred state laws intended to shield grieving families of fallen soldiers from the group and its famously epithet-riddled placards, which carry slogans such as "God Hates America," "Thank God for IEDs," and "God Hates Fags."

  I'm assuming you are trying to link Terry Jones with the Westboro protests at US soldier burials. Where is your proof?

  Dark Side, I think you might misunderstand. No one that I know of is asserting they we should maintain our standards so that they will copy us, though it would be great if they did.

  We are saying that we need to not harm ourselves by lowering our standards to theirs.

  Ah.

  So, according to your logic, we should stand patiently and placidly in the line of fire. If we fight back, we will only lower our own standards, by which we will be harming ourselves

  The minister is not in the line of fire, nor is he part of the military. Last time I checked, they were in charge of national security AND, we seem to be firing back just fine. ;)
